It didn't take long to see the special qualities of these hybrid dogs.  There is a genetic advantage of crossbreeding purebred dogs.  Combining two breeds from unrelated gene pools results in what breeders refer to as "Hybrid Vigor". Hybrid Vigor decreases the incidence of genetic defects and increases traits like fertility, survival and growth rate.

Labradoodles are the result of blending the finest genetically healthy strains of the Poodle, long renowned for it's high intelligence and non-shedding coat of wool, and the finest healthy strains of the Labrador and Golden Retrievers who are known for being good natured and easy to train.  See Our Labradoodles and labradoodle picture gallery to see more pictures of a labradoodle puppy.

Labradoodles are very clever, sociable, fast learners, easy to train and great with children.

There are four types of Labradoodles; F1 Labradoodle, F1B labradoodle, F2 labradoodle, Multigen labradoodle:

1. F1 - 50/50 cross between a Poodle and a Labrador. The coat is usually light shedding, dander free hair.  First cross coats can vary from straight to curly or a combination.  F1s will have an excellent temperament and health if the parent dogs are the same.

2. F1B - Cross between a F1 Labradoodle and a Poodle. These backcrossed Labradoodles consistently have beautiful non-shedding, dander free fleece coats.  Their temperament is great if the parent dogs are the same.  For people with allergies F1B is a good choice.

3. F2 - Cross between two Labradoodles.  The coat of the F2 is a little more unpredictable than F1B. Second generation dogs have a greater chance of having a non-shedding coat and may have a beautiful fleece coat.  However, since the poodle/lab ratio is the same as with the first cross the coat could be straighter than F1B.  Temperament is great.

4. Multigen - The term multigen was coined in Australia and generally refers to blood lines that came from Australia.  The Australian labradoodle coat is a free flowing  non-shedding fleece, which is much easier to care for than wool or hair.  The personality of the multigen dog is playful, gentle and submissive.

Goldendoodles are the result or blending the finest genetically healthy strains of the Poodle and the finest healthy strains of the Golden Retriever which is renown for its reliable temperament.  The Golden Retriever makes a great hunter, family pet or show dog. They are used successfully in field trials, obedient and used as guide dogs.

Goldendoodles are very loving dogs who want to please and are wonderful dogs, well suited especially for children.

There are two types of Goldendoodles being bred; F1 and F1B.

1. F1 - Cross between a Poodle and a Golden Retriever.  Depending on the breeder, first cross Goldendoodle coats will vary from wispy to a thick wave.  Goldendoodle first cross coats tend to be consistently wavier than Labradoodle first cross coats.  Goldendoodles have a wonderful, loving temperament and good health if the parent dogs are the same.

2. F1B - Cross between an F1 Goldendoodle and a Poodle.  These backcrossed Goldendoodles have beautiful non-shedding fleece coats, dander free.  Their temperament is great if the parent dogs are the same.

Training our doodles is an enjoyable job.  We have had many positive comments from owners of our labradoodles and goldendoodles.

We were at a doodle romp last year where there were approximately 20 doodles running around without leashes.  They were all playing together and not one barked.  The doodles we have are very mellow and compliant.  That works well in our household where we homeschool four children.
